Col. Joseph R. Hawley, in his report on the battle, mentioned Lt. Seward and stated, "...and Lieut. W. T. Seward, Seventh Connecticut Volunteers, brigade quartermaster and commissary, performed their duties admirably. Their labors on the 20th, and for two or three days after, were excessive and exhausting."
